Case Study : Star Ball 2011 – Welcome to Burlesque

Brief

Starlight Foundation approached Event Equipment to work with them on their 2011 Star Ball event. Event Equipment was asked to pitch both the technical and styling. It was to be a heavily themed event that would take all guests on a journey.  The technical needed to be of the highest quality and vary considerably given the many layers of entertainment throughout the night.

Challenges

To come up with a creatively exciting and technically solid proposal which was pitched by Event Equipment and Clymax Event Design as a team to the Star Ball Committee. Two other prominent AV companies also pitched – but the committee went with us.
To tie the extensive technical component in with the styling of the entire room so that it was transparent and a ‘wow factor’ could be achieved.
With many layers and greatly varied entertainment throughout the evening, it was crucial to have, and deliver, a thorough rehearsal schedule so strict run sheet times could be adhered to on the evening.   
To work closely with the venue to ensure the technical schedule and floor plan fit in with their tight function set up. 

Results

The event was a massive success with all guests completely blown away by the entire room’s styling and lighting spectacular. Starlight Foundation was elated as Event Equipment delivered a complete, technically flawless show without a single drama. The rehearsal schedule in the afternoon was manic but the professional Event Equipment team delivered each component that evening with excellence.

Event Equipments responsibilities for this event included:

  • To pitch the chosen theme of ‘Burlesque’ to a Star Ball committee
  • Project Management which worked closely with the client to take out the stress of technical and styling aspects.
  • Complete room styling changing the space completely and exceeding all expectations
  • Large scale lighting design to work within the room, emphasis the stage styling and provide plenty of variety for the many layers of entertainment.
  • Power allocation and distribution to an outdoor site for both AV and catering purposes.
  • A vision component that included 4 screens, 4 high-end projectors, complex and varied switching and 2 x manned camera locations.
    • Delivery of a complex audio system where even distribution for guest satisfaction was critical and to accommodate a variety of entertainment requirements.

Client Feedback

As my first event I am wrapped with the final outcome of the evening. It was great having Jason and the Event Equipment team who knew exactly what was going on in regards to AV who I could ask questions to and who would instill me with confidence. Max and his team were awesome and worked hard to achieve a fabulous room look that everybody was talking about. Max achieved the WOW factor that the Committee harped on about in all our meetings.
